  • Chicken breasts or thighs (boneless and skinless)
  • All-purpose flour
  • Eggs
  • Milk or buttermilk
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Paprika
  • Garlic powder
  • Vegetable oil or frying oil of your choice

For the Waffles:

  • All-purpose flour
  • Baking powder
  • Salt
  • Sugar
  • Eggs
  • Milk
  • Unsalted butter (melted)
  • Vanilla extract

Optional toppings:

  • Maple syrup
  • Honey
  • Hot sauce
  • Butter
  • Sliced green onions (for garnish)

Instructions:

For the Chicken:

  1. Prepare Chicken: Trim any excess fat from the chicken breasts or thighs and pat them dry with paper towels.
  2. Season Chicken: In a shallow dish, mix together flour, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder to create a seasoned flour mixture. In another shallow dish, whisk together eggs and milk or buttermilk.
  3. Coat Chicken: Dip each piece of chicken into the seasoned flour mixture, coating it evenly, then dip it into the egg mixture, allowing any excess to drip off. Finally, dip it back into the seasoned flour mixture, ensuring it’s well coated. Set aside on a plate.
  4. Heat Oil: In a large skillet or frying pan, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  5. Fry Chicken: Carefully place the coated chicken pieces into the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Cook for about 5-7 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. The internal temperature of the chicken should reach 165°F (75°C). Once cooked, transfer the chicken to a wire rack set over a baking sheet to drain excess oil.

For the Waffles:

  1. Preheat Waffle Iron: Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  2. Prepare Batter: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. In another bowl, beat the eggs, then add milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.
  3. Cook Waffles: Pour the appropriate amount of batter onto the preheated waffle iron according to its size and cook according to the manufacturer’s instructions, usually about 3-5 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp.

Assembly:

  1. Serve: Place a cooked waffle on a plate, then top it with a piece of fried chicken.
  2. Optional Toppings: Drizzle with maple syrup, honey, or hot sauce, and add a pat of butter on top if desired. Garnish with sliced green onions for a fresh touch.
  3. Enjoy: Serve your chicken and waffles immediately while still warm. The combination of savory fried chicken with sweet, fluffy waffles is sure to be a hit!
